Dublin may be small in size compared to other European capitals but what it lacks in surface area, it more than makes up for in versatility and personality. Many global giants have chosen to base their European Headquarters in Dublin, such as Google, Facebook, HubSpot, PayPal, Microsoft, Yahoo and Airbnb. Business travellers from all over the world travel to Dublin to attend various events, conferences and seminars.  For those lucky enough to be seeing our fair city here’s our handy business travellers guide to Dublin.

Why choose Dublin for your Business Travel?

Besides our thriving industry and the many huge companies based in Dublin, we are well-known as a friendly, vibrant city, full of characters and individuality. We are a progressive country both politically and socially and welcome all races, colours and creeds. The Georgian architecture in the city gives us a very distinct feel and besides the purpose-built docklands area, you won’t find many anonymous skyscrapers dominating our skyline. Like many cities, Dublin has a myriad of hidden treasures not enjoyed by a typical business traveller including bars, restaurants, public spaces and alternative events venues.

Transport in Dublin

If you’re heading to a Dublin event, either in the city or the surrounding area, we are well-connected via road and public transport making getting from A to B very easy. If you’re lucky enough to be attending an event in a very unique conference venue like DCU, you can reach us easily either by foot or by public transport from the city. To travel to and from the airport, there are dedicated bus routes to drop you close by and there are no shortage of taxis if you want to arrive in comfort. The quickest and most direct way through the heart of the city is the Luas (our overground tram system) but Dublin buses are cheap and usually reliable too. You can also sign up for a Dublin Bike if you’d like to explore the city on two wheels.

A Bite to Eat

When travelling for business, you’re often in a rush. Dashing between meetings, conferences and accommodation leave little time to check out Dublin’s excellent restaurant scene. Luckily you won’t have to walk the streets to find some excellent food when you meet in DCU. We have a wide range of catering options available including receptions, buffets and banquets. On-campus there is also a bar, a restaurant & canteen and a convenience store. Also, Dublin City University aims to be a disposable plastic-free campus by 2021 meaning all of our events and catering are conducted in the most sustainable manner possible. If you’d prefer to eat elsewhere, our prime location in Glasnevin is close to many pubs, restaurants and cafes.

Keep Active

One thing business travellers may struggle with is keeping active while on the road, especially if you’re staying overnight or longer. Dublin has some excellent gyms and fitness centres, including the world-class facilities on DCU Campus available at a small charge to all of our visitors. We are just 15-minutes’ drive to the largest walled park in Europe, Phoenix Park, which is ideal for a long jog or stroll on a bright evening. You might even head to the closeby Ellenfield Park or Albert College Park to decompress after a long day in our conference venue.

Accommodation

If you’re attending a large Dublin event or conference, the likelihood is the city will be busy and busy cities mean inflated hotel prices. For an alternative to expensive hotel rooms, you might consider staying on-campus, just steps from DCU events venue in DCU rooms. Our great value accommodation is ideal for business travellers who prefer a no-fuss place to stay on a budget. Contact our accommodation team today for more information or to check availability for your next Dublin event.

DCU offers convenient and flexible conference & event spaces to suit any type of meeting. If you’d like to book your event in any DCUs conference spaces, our friendly team are more than happy to talk through your options or show you around the campus.

We look forward to hearing from you soon to see how our team can facilitate your unique event, ensuring everything runs as smoothly as clockwork.
